An early morning domestic incident just north of High Park has resulted in the city’s 14th homicide of 2012.

Police were called to a home on Glenlake Avenue, High Park Avenue and Bloor Street W. at 6:30 a.m. on April 16 after receiving a call from a man who said he had just assaulted his parents.

When police arrived at the home, they say they arrested the man under the Mental Health Act and took him to hospital for evaluation.

The parents, who had allegedly been beaten by their son, were then rushed to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

On April 17 at approximately 10 a.m., the father, 79-year-old Ivan Sego, succumbed to his injuries.

As a result, police charged his son, 39-year-old Zlatko Sego, who reportedly suffered from schizophrenia, with second-degree murder. He was also charged with assault causing bodily harm in relation to his mother’s injuries. He made a court appearance in Old City Hall on April 18.

On the morning of April 19, it was reported that Zlatko Sego was found dead in his cell at the Don Jail, after taking his own life.
