The obituary for Avenue Rd. and St. Clair Ave. resident John Bolan read has many political tongues wagging.

The notice, which ran in the Toronto Star, read in part “in lieu of flowers, please vote Liberal”.

“It was never meant to try to influence people’s voting,” said Bolan’s daughter Mary. “It was really intended for everyone who knew him and understood his sense of humour.”

Bolan, 78, who lived in the St. Paul’s riding was known for his sense of humour and his love for the Liberal Party. But he hated flowers as they reminded him of his late sister’s death.

“Although we are all grieving and we miss him so much, we thought he would like that,” said Mary.
